Taking the #preppyhollowhouse from closed off to coral
The most dramatic transformation at the #preppyhollowhouse involved removing the wall between the kitchen and living room to create one large open-concept space. The ceiling in the adjacent living room was already vaulted, so we decided to remove the wall between the two rooms and vault the ceiling in the kitchen to create symmetry and make the space feel larger.

The original kitchen was small with a U-shaped layout and a set of sliding glass doors that led out to the deck. The space felt dark and dated, and was in need of a major refresh. Our goal was to make the kitchen a more cheerful, inviting place for guests to cook, socialize, and relax.

To accomplish this, we started by selecting a fun shade of coral for the cabinets. We kept the sink and range in their original locations, but added an island with additional storage and space for dining, as well as some white oak open shelving. The cabinets are a thin Shaker style from B&G Cabinet custom-painted in Benjamin Moore Tucson Coral.

We paired the bold coral cabinets with a muted green star-patterned cement tile for the backsplash and white quartz countertops. Lucite and brass cabinet pulls add a touch of glam and coordinate with the brass faucet and brass and green chandelier.

Opening up the wall between the kitchen and living room vastly improved the flow of the house and made for a much more inviting space conducive to entertaining.
