When designing the bedrooms at the #preppyhollowhouse, we wanted to give each room its own distinct personality, all while maintaining a cohesive look throughout the house. To accomplish this, we installed vertical shiplap paneling halfway up the wall for the focal wall of each bedroom. We painted this paneling, the doors, and trim in each room the same shade of light green, then chose a simple white for the walls. Next, we selected a unique wallpaper for each bedroom to give the room character and a sense of playfulness.

In the first guest bedroom, we opted for a colorful striped wallpaper that reminded us of sunny days spent playing croquet or tennis. A vintage faux bamboo bedroom set balances out the bold colors and grounds the space.

Opposite the bed, we created a small area for guests to store luggage and personal effects during their stay. A coat of coral paint transformed a vintage reeded cabinet. A brass and smoked glass mirror coordinates with the metal pulls on the cabinet and white hydrangeas add a classic Cape Cod touch.

A pair of vintage needlepoint dog samplers adds a whimsical touch and a dose of color to the room. As soon as we saw them, we knew that the colors would be perfect for this project. They are definitely one of our favorite vintage finds to date!

The second guest bedroom was on the smaller side, so we selected a pretty shell patterned wallpaper—we love the unexpected combination of the shells and the green background color. A white metal spindle bed and vintage wood campaign nightstand coordinate with the colors used in the wallpaper.

Opposite the bed, a large faux bamboo armoire provides convenient storage and balances out the lighter colors used throughout the rest of the room. A white bamboo-inspired luggage rack and brass and lucite wall hooks offer additional storage.

Vintage black and white photographs of local Cape Cod beaches add the finishing touch to this petite, yet pretty guest room. The simplicity of the black and white photos doesn't compete with the wallpaper and contributes to the peaceful, relaxing feeling of this room.

In both rooms, the bed linens feature elegant scalloped embroidery customized to match the colors of the room. Our goal with these bedrooms was to create fun, welcoming rooms full of style and color.
